A native of South Salem, N.Y., Cathy Mackin played basketball at Binghamton from 1994-1998. She earned a bachelor's degree in philosophy, politics and law in 1998. Mackin then graduated from Pace University School of Law in 2001.

A two-sport athlete who tasted nothing but success in her career, Mackin  made her greatest impact on the basketball floor. Binghamton won at a near-80 percent clip in her four years and reached the NCAA Division III tournament every year, which positioned the program for a seamless transition up to NCAA Division II.

Mackin's first collegiate competition came on the tennis courts, where she won SUNYAC singles and doubles titles as a freshman, leading the team to a conference crown and top-3 state finish. Mackin went a combined 25-4 in singles before turning her attention permanently to basketball.

After a leg injury slowed her contributions in 1994-95, Mackin hit her stride as a sophomore. She led the team in scoring (14.1), 3-point shooting (41%) and free throw percentage (78%). Mackin was selected all-conference and then was prominent on the SUNYAC All-Championship team after netting 24 points in Binghamton's semifinal win. With Mackin anchoring the backcourt from her shooting guard spot, Binghamton made a second straight NCAA tournament appearance.

As a junior in 1996-97, Mackin continued her marksmanship with 53 3-pointers and 79% free throw shooting. She was a first team all-conference selection and clinched the program's first-ever conference title with four clutch free throws in the final 35 seconds to lift Binghamton over host and NCAA power Geneseo in the championship game. Earlier in the tournament, she drained seven 3-pointers in a quarterfinal win.

Mackin's senior season featured 309 points, MVP honors at the Gettysburg Tournament and a plethora of team accomplishments, including most wins (22), a 16-0 mark against Division III foes, a win over reigning NCAA champion NYU, a top-5 national ranking and a berth in the NCAA Round of 16. She set the school's career scoring record at 1,269 points and finished her career among the top-10 in seven offensive categories, including 3-pointers (179) and 3-point percentage (39%).

Mackin was named the Jessie Godfrey Award recipient for career achievement and also was a Merit Medal honoree for her academic prowess.
