A native of Freeport, N.Y., Hasani Hampden competed in track and field at Binghamton from 2001-06. He received his bachelor's degree in computer science in 2005 and earned his MBA from Binghamton in 2007.

A two-time conference champion and five-time all-conference honoree, Hampden was a versatile, point-producer for the Bearcats and was among the program's top-10 in nine different events when his career ended.

Hampden came to campus as a walk-on in 2001 and began his collegiate career with relay work. He was a member of a 4x400 relay that placed fifth at the America East Indoor Championship — Binghamton's first Division I conference meet. In his sophomore year, Hampden placed third in the heptathlon at the America East indoor meet and then took third in the 400 hurdles at the outdoor meet. In 2004, Hampden competed outdoors and capped his spring with a pair of all-conference accolades. He was runnerup in the 400 hurdles and took eighth in the high jump.

One year later, Hampden captured his first conference championship with the heptathlon title at the 2005 America East indoor meet. At the same meet he was fifth in the long jump. In his final collegiate season, Hampden repeated as heptathlon champion at the America East indoor meet, totaling 4,910 points. He also was runnerup in the 55 hurdles and was a unanimous selection as the Most Outstanding Performer by a vote of the conference head coaches. Outdoors, Hampden was runnerup in the 400 hurdles, placed fifth at the IC4A Championship and advanced to the NCAA East Regional.

Hampden graduated with top-10 marks in the following events: 60 and 500 meters, 60, 110 and 400 hurdles, High Jump, Long Jump, Heptathlon, and 4x100 and 4x400 relays. He remains the school's record-holder in the 400 hurdles (52.10). A two-time member of the America East Track All-Academic Team, Hampden received the department's Jake Pitler Award for career achievement and leadership in 2006.
