A native of Windsor, N.Y., Jami Pier played softball at Binghamton from 1997-00. She earned her bachelor's degree in human development in 2000.
A three-time all-region catcher and two-year captain, Pier led her teams to four postseason titles, a pair of NCAA Regional berths and a win percentage of 67% as BU transitioned across two divisional levels.
As a freshman she caught all 42 games and hit .333 to steer the Colonials to a 30-12 record that included a New York State title and NCAA appearance. She collected 20 doubles, which still stands as a school record some 22 years later. Pier was recognized as an All-SUNYAC, All-State and all-region selection.
In Binghamton's final season as a Division III member in 1998, Pier led the team to a 28-11 mark, fourth straight NCAA tournament berth and No. 11 final national rank. She produced a team-leading 28 RBI and was a repeat all-region selection after the Colonials came within five outs of advancing to the College World Series.
In her junior season, Pier hit a team-high .376 as Binghamton marked its debut as an NCAA Division II member with a sparkling 16-2 record in the New England Collegiate Conference and another postseason appearance — this time in the ECAC Division II Mid-Atlantic semifinals. Pier had a .406 on-base percentage and again received all-region accolades.
In 2000, senior captain Pier anchored the now-Bearcats to 21 wins and a postseason crown at the ECAC Division II Mid-Atlantic Championship. In the opening game of the best-of-three championship series against Mansfield, Pier belted a 3-run home run to lift BU to a 4-1 victory. After Binghamton's ensuing 1-0 title-clinching win, Pier was named championship MVP.
She still ranks among the program's top-10 in career hits (9th with 152), doubles (2nd with 44) and RBI (9th with 100).
