A native of Pine Bush, N.Y., Jessica Hennig competed in track & field at Binghamton from 2009-13. She earned a bachelor’s degree in English and graphic design, graduating magna cum laude with highest honors in design in 2013.
A three-time team captain, two-time MVP and eight-time America East all-conference sprinter, Hennig's significant individual achievements were eclipsed only by her impact on the women's track & field program, which raised its conference standing each year during her tenure.
As a freshman, Hennig made an immediate impact with an America East indoor title in the 400 meters. She set a school record and one week later at the ECAC Championship, led off Binghamton's 4 x 400 relay that also set a new program standard. Hennig followed that up with all-conference honors outdoors.
In her sophomore season, Hennig lowered her 400 indoor record with another America East title. Outdoors, she was runnerup in the 400 and led the 4x400 relay team to a second place finish. That quartet then lowered its own school record at the ECAC Championship.
Hennig had her strongest year as a junior, winning indoor and outdoor 400 conference titles. She lowered her school record indoors (55.14) and outdoors (54.47) and was named the department's Female Athlete of the Year.
As a senior, Hennig added a pair of runnerup conference finishes to her 400 meter resume, anchored the 4x400 relay team to another record-setting time (3:44.36) and then capped her career by earning a berth to the NCAA East Regional Meet at North Carolina A&T. Along the way, she lifted the team to its best performances at the America East Indoor (3rd) and Outdoor (2nd) Championships.
Hennig closed her career holding school records in the indoor and outdoor 400, indoor 300 and as a member of the indoor and outdoor 4x400 relays. She owns top-10 times in five events.
An accomplished student, Hennig was named to the America East Track All-Academic Team four times and was inducted into the National College Athlete Honor Society in 2011.
