A native of Wyncote, Pa., Rachel Laws played basketball at Binghamton from 2002-06.
She graduated with a bachelor's degree in African studies from Binghamton in 2006 and earned her Ph.D. from Michigan State in African American & African Studies in 2012.
A three-time America East all-conference selection, Laws scored 1,246 career points — fifth-most in school history — and grabbed 624 rebounds to rank among the program's top-10 in each category.
After shooting 54 percent off the bench as a freshman, Laws earned a starting role in her sophomore season. She averaged 14.7 points and 7.2 rebounds to pace the Bearcats to a 17-win season and second-place regular season finish in the America East. After the season she earned the first of two first-team all-conference honors and was then selected as the University's "Athlete of the Year."
Her junior year produced 201 rebounds, a 13.7 scoring average and another spot on the America East all-conference first team.
Laws eclipsed the 1,000-point plateau early in her senior season and again led the Bearcats to a 17-win season that culminated in a trip to the America East tournament semifinals. She shot 52 percent from the floor and capped her career with a third straight all-conference selection.
Awards on and off the floor were aplenty for Laws, who was named to the America East All-Championship and All-Academic teams in 2006. She also was selected as an Arthur Ashe, Jr. Scholar-Athlete and received the conference Sportsmanship Award as a senior.
Laws was given the University's John Bilos Award for career achievement in 2006.
