A native of Vestal, N.Y., Tara DeFlippo played soccer at Binghamton from 1994-96 after transferring from Monroe Community College. She graduated with a bachelor's degree in psychology from Binghamton in 1997.

A junior college All-American and finalist for national "Goalkeeper of the Year" at MCC, DeFlippo returned home and anchored Binghamton's defensive unit for her final three collegiate seasons.

In 1994, DeFlippo posted 11 shutouts and a 0.49 goals against average as the Colonials won a then-record 15 games and captured the ECAC Mid-Atlantic championship. The team was ranked as high as No. 2 in the nation and DeFlippo was recognized as All-SUNYAC and All-Region.

One year later, DeFlippo's team went unbeaten in SUNYAC play, captured the program's first outright conference championship and earned an NCAA berth with a 12-3-3 record. DeFlippo made 109 saves, recorded 12 shutouts and only allowed eight goals all season. She was selected as an NSCAA Third Team All-American.
In her senior season, DeFlippo racked up 12 more shutouts and produced a paltry 0.39 goals against average. Binghamton went 17-2, was ranked as high as No. 2 in the nation and reached the NCAA Round of 16.

In her three-year career, she had more shutouts (school-record 35) than goals allowed (33) and still holds the record for career goals against average (0.52).

A three-time all-conference and all-region selection, DeFlippo received the John Bilos Award for career achievement in 1997.
