Bearcat student-athletes honored for success in the classroom

VESTAL, N.Y. – Binghamton's student-athletes routinely get up early in the morning to start their days. For a select group of them, however, there was an extra incentive to rise and shine on Wednesday morning. The Binghamton Division of Athletics held its semi-annual breakfast in the TAU Room of the Events Center for those students who attained a 4.0 GPA during the previous semester.

Including last year's graduating senior class, 47 student-athletes (11.1 percent of all student-athletes) attained a perfect 4.0 during the Spring 2025 semester. Several of them were on hand Wednesday morning and were greeted by Binghamton University President Harvey Stenger, Provost Donald Hall and Director of Athletics Gene Marshall.

"It's been great to not only congratulate you this morning but also to chat with you and see how each of you are doing," Stenger said to the student-athletes. "Good luck the rest of this semester and thank you for all you have done to represent our university."

"Congratulations to our outstanding 4.0 student athletes," Marshall said. "They are champions in the classroom, on the field of competition and in the community! These very talented individuals truly embody what Bearcat Athletics is all about!"

Wednesday morning's event was much appreciated by the student-athletes, who also took the time to reflect on what it took to attain their perfect GPAs.

"For me, academics and athletics go before anything else," men's tennis player William Morais Binnie said. "That has made the difference in time management and making the right decisions every day. Binghamton gives us a lot of resources to do well. We have great academic advisors, a lot of tutors, very helpful professors and a very supportive staff."
