Binghamton athletics is commemorating 75 years of intercollegiate competition during the 2021-22 school year. The celebration includes social media and website reveals of great moments, elite teams, trailblazers and various features and anecdotes.
The University was officially launched as Triple Cities College (TCC) of Syracuse University on June 6, 1946 and the then two-year school opened its doors to 876 students on September 28, 1946. The first athletics competition was a men's basketball game against Endicott-Johnson All-Stars on January 10, 1947 (a 61-53 loss). That first year, TCC fielded teams for men's basketball, men's track & field and men's tennis.
Seventy-five years later, Binghamton athletics is a 21-team NCAA Division I program competing in the America East Conference.
