Women's Soccer Defeated 3-0 at UMass Lowell

River Hawks score twice in opening 10 minutes

LOWELL, Mass. – Katelyn Viera had a goal and an assist, powering UMass Lowell (4-10-0, 1-3-0 AE) to a 3-0 win over Binghamton (1-11-1, 0-4-0 AE) in an America East women's soccer game on Sunday afternoon at Cushing Field.

After assisting on Shannon Groffie's goal in the third minute, Viera scored an unassisted goal in the 10th minute. It was her team-high seventh goal of the season.

Binghamton settled down during the remainder of the first half but in the 61st minute, Maggie Davenport made it 3-0. She got her own rebound and fired it into the net for her second goal of the season.

The Bearcats nearly got on the scoreboard in the final minute but had a shot hit the crossbar off a free kick.

"We dug ourselves a hole in the opening five minutes and it is tough to come back on the road," head coach Sarah McClellan said. "We will look to sharpen up for our home game on Thursday."

UMass Lowell outshot the Bearcats 23-10 for the game.

In goal, sophomore Katie Hatziyianis finished with six saves.

Binghamton closes its regular season with three of its last four games at the Bearcats Sports Complex. The Bearcats host Stony Brook on Thursday at 6 p.m.
