BUFFALO, N.Y, -- The Binghamton women's basketball team (2-3) was defeated 80-50 at Canisius (2-2) on Wednesday night in a non-conference women's basketball game at Kosseler Athletic Center. The game marked the first of three straight road contests for the Bearcats.Â
Sophomore guard
Imani Watkins scored a game-high 21 points, marking the second time this season she has reached the 20-point mark in scoring. Sophomore forward
Alyssa James added 17 points and tied for the game high with seven rebounds.

Margaret Halfdanardottir led Canisius with 14 points, followed by Sara Hinriksdottir with 12 points and Crystal Porter with 11 points. As a team, the Griffs shot 55.9 percent from the field, connecting on 33 of 59 field goal attempts in the process. From three-point range, they were 12-for-18 (66.7 percent).

The Bearcats went on an 11-0 run in a span of 3:52 to go up 15-10 with 2:41 left in the first period. Watkins had six of her points and James netted five points during that stretch.

The Griffs, however, battled back to tie the game at 17-17 on a jumper by Porter with 1:14 left in the opening period. She then drained a shot at the buzzer to put Canisius up 19-17.

Canisius blew the game open in the second period, outscoring Binghamton 17-6 to go up 36-23 at the half. The Griffs' depth proved decisive as they held a commanding 9-0 lead in bench scoring.

The Bearcats' offensive struggles continued into the third period. By the time they hit their first field goal, the Griffs had built a 44-26 lead with 5:47 left to go. By the end of the period, the Canisius lead had swelled to 57-31.
Freshman guard
Rebecca Carmody added eight points, four rebounds and a game-high five steals.
