ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Binghamton women's basketball team (4-8) lost 64-57 at Cornell (7-5) in a non-conference women's basketball game on Wednesday night at Newman Arena. The game was the Bearcats' first in 15 days, since the fall semester concluded.

Sophomore forward Alyssa James finished with 19 points, eight rebounds, two assists, two steals and a pair of blocks. She came into the game ranked third in the America East with 17.4 points per game and No. 19 in the nation with 2.7 blocks per game. 

Sophomore guard Imani Watkins added 16 points, five assists and two steals. She entered the game ranked sixth in the conference with 16.2 points per game and third with 5.1 assists per contest.

Senior guard Kim Albrecht scored 12 points while freshman forward Rebecca Carmody chipped in eight points, eight rebounds, two asssts and a game-high four steals.

Nia Marshall of Cornell, however, was the difference as she poured in a game-high 31 points. In the process, she connected on 15 of her 16 field goal attempts. Nicholle Aston, meanwhile, added 13 points and a game-high 12 rebounds in the winning effort.

Cornell scored the first eight points of the game and was up by as much as 28-18 with 4:47 left in the first half. The Bearcats, however, closed to within 28-22 at the break.

In the opening 3:34 of the third quarter, Binghamton went on a 9-3 run to deadlock the game at 31-31. James punctuated the run with a game-tying layup.

Cornell regrouped and built its lead back up to 41-34 with 2:52 left in the third period. From there, the Big Red extended its cushion to 53-40 with 7:45 left in regulation.

The Bearcats clawed back to within 58-52 on a fast-break layup by Carmody with 3:36 left to go. Cornell, however, responded by scoring six of the next eight points, padding its lead 64-54 with 1:09 remaining.

Led by Marshall, the Big Red shot 52 percent from the field (27-of-51) while the Bearcats shot 40 percent (27-of-51). Cornell also finished with a 34-27 advantage in rebounding. Each team turned the ball over 16 times.

Binghamton returns home to face Misericordia on Monday at 7 p.m. It will mark the Bearcats' final non-conference game of the season.

NOTES: James already has 32 blocks this season. She is now tied for the 10th-best, single season total in program history. Sherae Swinson also had 32 blocks during the 2012-13 campaign ... Albrecht drained a pair of three-point field goals against Cornell, giving her 80 for her career. She remains in 12th place all time in program history ... five of the Bearcats' eight road defeats this season have been decided by nine points or less. Four of those setbacks, including the game against Cornell, have come against teams with winning records.
