Wrestling Picks Up Weekend Sweep with 32-9 Win at Bloomsburg

BLOOMSBURG, Pa.- The Binghamton wrestling team won, 32-9, at Bloomsburg Saturday night. Eight Bearcats won as BU wrapped up its regular season with a stellar showing in non-conference action.
 
David White got things started for the Bearcats, controlling his 125-pound match with Jon Haas. White recorded a 20-9 major decision to put BU ahead, 4-0.
 
In the 141-pound bout, Dylan Caruana posted a takedown in the early action and then collected two more to go up after a period. He finished with a 12-4 major decision over Tanner Cahill, giving Binghamton an 8-3 advantage.
 
Vincent DePrez jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in his 157-pound contest with Matt Hammerstone. DePrez eventually came away with a 6-1 decision.
 
Zack Zupan stretched the BU margin with a commanding performance in the 165-pound match. Zupan tallied a pair of takedowns in the first period and controlled the action throughout, taking a 12-4 major decision over Kurt Meske.
 
In the 174-pound contest, Steve Schneider recorded a 9-3 decision over Auston Hummel. Schneider picked up a reversal and then put together three takedowns to get the victory.
 
Jack McKeever won the 184-pound match via injury default, pushing Binghamton to the dual win. Caleb Wallace followed with a 10-6 decision over Michael Mirra in the 197-pound bout.
 
In the heavyweight match, Tyler Deuel continued his dominating string of wrestling to conclude the evening. Deuel collected six near-fall points in the first period on his way to a 20-1 technical fall over Dominic Carfagno. Deuel has now won 11 straight matches.
 
Binghamton beat #22 Bucknell Friday and finishes the regular season with a 9-10 record. It returns to the mat at the Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association (EIWA) Championships March 6-7. BU will send 10 wrestlers to Lehigh for the event.
