Taylor Chaffee drove in five runs and sophomore designated player
Bridget Hunt had three RBI, powering Binghamton (6-6) to a sweep in its first two games at the Myrtle Beach Tournament on Saturday. The Bearcats defeated Manhattan 9-5 in the first game and nipped Rider 3-2 in the finale.
Chaffee had all five of her RBI in the opener. She clubbed a three-run home run in the top of the second inning, had a RBI groundout one inning later and singled home her final run in the sixth inning.
Hunt and freshman outfielder
Jessica Rutherford also each had a pair of hits against the Jaspers. Rutherford scored three runs while junior outfielder
Sydney Harbaugh scored twice.
Freshman pitcher
Sarah Miller went the distance against Manhattan to raise her record to 4-2.
In the second game, Hunt drove in a pair of her runs. She drilled a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth inning to tie the game at 2-2. Two frames later, Hunt doubled in the eventual winning run.
Junior pitcher
Cara Martin, who came on in relief in the fourth inning, got the win.
Harbaugh batted a team-best .667 during the two games, going 4-for-6 and scoring three times. Rutherford finished 3-for-5 while also scored three runs.
Binghamton plays Rider at noon and Manhattan at 2 p.m. on Sunday in the final day of the Myrtle Beach Tournament.
