STONY BROOK, N.Y.—The Binghamton women's lacrosse team (5-6, 1-2 America East) fell to the no. 9/8 Stony Brook Seawolves (10-0, 2-0 America East) today by a score of 15-2.
The Bearcats held Stony Brook scoreless for the first nine and a half minutes, but after that the Seawolves were quite efficient. Stony Brook opened with four goals, starting at 20:29, before
Valerie DeNapoli put the Bearcats on the board with her seventh goal of the season. The home team then rattled off six more goals to lead 10-1 at the half.
The Bearcats defense stepped up in the second half, allowing only three goals in the first 28 minutes. The Seawolves would spoil the Bearcats momentum though, by scoring two goals in the final 1:11. By the time
Renee Kiviat sent home her team-leading 19th goal, the score was 15-2 Seawolves with only four seconds remaining.
Along with scoring one of the team's two goals, Kiviat also led the team in ground balls (3) and caused turnovers (2). Fellow captain Allie Rodger led Binghamton with three draw controls.
Erin McNulty played all 60 minutes in net for BU, making eight saves.
The Bearcats will now welcome the Vermont Catamounts to the Bearcats Sports Complex at noon on Saturday, April 4, for another America East matchup.
