VESTAL, N.Y. – Vicky McFarland and Maggie Cocks each homered twice, powering Albany (21-10, 6-2 AE) to a sweep over Binghamton (13-16, 4-5 AE) in an America East softball doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at the Bearcats Sports Complex. The Great Danes won the opener 8-5 and finished off a 13-4 win in five innings in the finale.

McFarland finished the day 4-for-8 and drove in six runs. She also had a double and a triple to finish with a 1.625 slugging percentage. Cocks, meanwhile, was 4-for-9 and drove in five runs. As a team, Albany hit .407 with 10 of their 24 hits going for extra bases.

Junior catcher Lisa Cadogan paced the Bearcats by going 4-for-6 with a double and three RBI. She is now batting a team-best .420 and has 36 RBI to go along with eight home runs.

Junior outfielder Sydney Harbaugh went 3-for-5 and drew three walks. She also scored three times.

As a team, Binghamton hit .373 during the doubleheader. Only three of their hits, however, went for extra bases.

Binghamton took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning of the opener. Cadogan delivered the big hit with a two-run double.

Albany took control of the game, however, with six runs in the top of the third inning. Cocks and McFarland each hit a two-run home run during that frame.

The Bearcats scored a run in both the bottom of the fifth and sixth inning, trimming the deficit to 6-5. Freshman outfielder Jessica Rutherford scored the first run on a sacrifice fly and drove in the second run on a RBI single.

McFarland, however, sparked a two-run top of the seventh inning with a RBI double. The Bearcats then went down in order in the bottom of the frame.

Devin Durando improved to 9-2 with the win while freshman pitcher Sarah Miller fell to 5-6 with the loss.

In the nightcap, McFarland led off the game with a home run. The Great Danes then plated four unearned runs in the top of the second inning. Cocks had a two-run single during that frame.

Binghamton got a pair of runs back in the bottom of the second inning. Senior shortstop Caytlin Friis doubled home the first run and later scored on a single by Harbaugh.

Albany, however, blew the game open with five more runs in the top of the third inning. Kayla Bailey doubled in two runs and later scored on a two-run triple by McFarland.

Elizabeth Snow made it 11-2 when she led off the top of the fourth inning with her team-best fifth home run of the year. The Bearcats answered with two runs in the bottom of the frame on RBI singles by Cadogan and Chaffee.

Cocks sealed the mercy-rule win with a two-run home run in the top of the fifth inning.

Erynn Sobieski got the win, raising her record to 7-3. The loss was tagged to sophomore pitcher Shelby Donhauser, who is now 2-5.

Freshman second baseman Stephanie Bielec finished the day 3-for-6 and scored a pair of runs while Chaffee was 2-for-5.

Binghamton and Albany concluded their weekend series with a single game on Sunday at noon.
