Softball Gains Split at Cornell

Bearcats lose opener 6-0, bounce back to win game two 9-3

ITHACA, N.Y. – Junior catcher Lisa Cadogan drove in four runs, leading Binghamton (18-17) to a doubleheader split at Cornell (17-24) on Tuesday afternoon at Nieman-Robison Field. The Bearcats dropped the opener 6-0 before winning the nightcap 9-3.

Cadogan finished the afternoon 3-for-4 and reached base six times. She now has 44 RBI this season, which ties the single-season program record set by Deannie Plemon in 2010.

In the first game, Maddie Orcutt fired a two-hit shutout for the Big Red, improving her record to 11-12. Cadogan, however, reached base all three times she came up to the plate, drawing a pair of walks before getting hit by a pitch in her final time up.

The loss was tagged to sophomore pitcher Shelby Donhauser, who is now 2-6.

The second game was a different story as Cadogan went 3-for-4 with four RBI. She drove in the first run of the game on a RBI single in the top of the first inning.

After Cornell tied the game in the bottom of the first inning, Cadogan capped a five-run second inning with a three-run double. Earlier in the frame, junior outfielder Sydney Harbaugh and freshman outfielder Jessica Rutherford each singled home a run.

Taylor Goodin trimmed the deficit to 6-2 in the bottom of the second inning with a home run. Freshman third baseman Kate Richard, however, belted a two-run homer in the top of the fifth inning, stretching the Bearcat lead to 8-2.

One inning later, sophomore outfielder Gabby Bracchi led off with a triple and would later score the final Binghamton run on a fielding error.

Junior pitcher Cara Martin, who came on in the fourth inning, improved to 9-4 with the win. Meg Parker took the loss and is now 4-6.

Bracchi and Richard each finished the doubleheader 2-for-6 (.333).

Binghamton returns home for its final regular season series of the season. The Bearcats host Maine in an America East doubleheader on Friday at 2 p.m. and in a single game on Saturday at noon.
