Men’s soccer defeated 2-0 by Wright State

Raiders score twice in a span of 2:30

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Peguy Nagatcha and Eric Lynch each scored a goal during a two-and-a-half minute stretch in the second half, leading Wright State (1-0-0) to a 2-0 win over Binghamton (0-1-0) on Friday night in the opening round of the Ira and Bert Wolstein Classic on Friday afternoon. The weekend tournament is being hosted by Ohio State.

Ngatcha finished off a corner kick at the 50:17 mark while Lynch scored off a scored off another corner kick exactly 2:30 later. Both goals were assisted by Jackson Dietrich.

Binghamton started the match with seven newcomers, six of whom were freshmen. Among the rookies starting in their first career game were Harrison Weilbacher, Connor McKnight, Miles Burbank, Kevin Flesch, Karamo Diaby and Kristian Piippo. Shervin Mohajeri, a junior transfer from Texas-Brownsville, was the other first-time starter.

"I thought we started the match quite well and played very good in the first half," head coach Paul Marco said. "There was a 10-minute spell in the second half where we conceded the two goals. We were good on the counterattack and got behind their defense but need to finish off our chances. Our younger guys did well for their first match but we need them to keep improving."

In goal, junior Robert Moewes finished the game with 10 saves. It marked the second time in his career he has finished a game with a double-digit save total.

Wright State, which won 12 games last year and advanced to the Horizon League title game, outshot the Bearcats 19-7, including a 10-2 margin in the decisive second half.

Binghamton faces Ohio State on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. in the final round of the Ira and Bert Wolstein Classic.

NOTE: Moewes' career-high in saves is 11, against Syracuse on Sept. 23, 2014.
