Zach Galluzzo scored twice, powering Binghamton (5-2-0) to a 2-1 win over Siena (0-5-2) in a non-conference men's soccer game on Saturday night before a season-high crowd of 1,065 fans at the Bearcats Sports Complex. The win gives the Bearcats a perfect 3-0-0 home record so far this season and was also their fifth victory in six games.
Galluzzo is the first Binghamton player to score twice in a game since Jake Keegan against UNC-Wilmington on Sept. 16, 2012. He now has two goals and an assist in the past two games.
Both of Galluzzo's goals came off of corner kicks. His first goal came in the 15
th minute with the assists going to graduate student forward
Pascal Trappe and freshman midfielder
Harrison Weilbacher. Galluzzo's final goal broke a 1-1 tie in the 73
rd minute with Weilbacher again getting an assist.
"Zach was our superhero tonight," head coach
Paul Marco said. "We are delighted to get the win but Siena played very well in the second half. We have been working a lot on set plays during training and it paid off tonight."
In between Galluzzo's goals, however, Siena tied the match on a goal by Junior Rosero in the 61
st minute. He took a pass from Tom Allen and fired it home from close range for his team-high third goal of the season.
Binghamton finished with a 12-11 edge in shots. The Bearcats had the first six shots of the game but by the time Rosero scored, Siena had a 10-8 advantage.
Junior goalkeeper
Robert Moewes made seven saves.
Binghamton travels to Syracuse on Tuesday for a 7 p.m. game.
