VESTAL, N.Y. – Freshman midfielder Kristian Piippo scored in the 69th minute, leading Binghamton (2-1-0) to a 1-0 win over Manhattan (0-3-0) in a non-conference men's soccer game on Monday night at the Bearcats Sports Complex. The game, which was the Bearcats' home opener, also marked their second straight shutout victory.

Piippo's goal, which was the first of his collegiate career, was set up by junior forward Logan Roberts, who passed the ball down the left sideline, and senior midfielder Tucker Sandercock, who then crossed the ball into the box. Piippo then fired the ball into the net from close range.

"I thought our guys came out great tonight," head coach Paul Marco said. "They played well and made some good adjustments after the half. We had a long layoff after the win over Ohio State but it's great to get the win at home in front of a fantastic crowd."

Binghamton outshot Manhattan 9-5 for the game. In goal, junior Robert Moewes made a pair of saves, including a huge one with just under four minutes left, to record his second solo shutout of the season.

The Bearcat defense has now gone 227 minutes without allowing a goal. In the past two games, they have surrendered only 11 shots.

Binghamton hosts St. Peter's on Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
