Women’s Basketball Defeated By Maine 52-38

Watkins and Carmody each net nine points, Godshall grabs career-best 10 rebounds

VESTAL, N.Y. – The Binghamton women's basketball team (9-12, 4-4 AE) lost 52-38 to Maine (16-7, 7-1 AE) in an America East women's basketball game on Saturday afternoon at the Events Center. The game was held in conjunction with the program's Play 4Kay event, which was geared towards raising funds and awareness for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.

Sophomore guard Imani Watkins and freshman forward Rebecca Carmody each finished with a team-best nine points. Senior guard Kim Albrecht and sophomore forward Alyssa James each added eight points while freshman forward Corrinne Godshall had a career-high 10 rebounds.

Binghamton was down 21-4 early in the second quarter but scored 12 unanswered points to pull to within 21-16 with 5:06 left before the half. Albrecht had five of her points during that stretch.

The Black Bears regrouped and held a 26-18 lead at the break. Sigi Koizar, who finished with 14 points, scored all five of Maine's points during that span.

In the third period, Maine took control of the game, outscoring Binghamton 18-8 to go up 44-26. Lauren Bodine nailed a pair of three-point field goals in the process. She ended the game with 12 points.

From there, the Black Bears maintained at least a 14-point cushion the rest of the game.

"I was proud of our team for never giving up," head coach Linda Cimino said. "Maine is obviously a great team with very good players. We got off to a slow start but never quit. There is room for improvement and room for growth."

Liz Wood of Maine led all scorers with 18 points and grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds.

The Black Bears entered the game as the top defensive team in the America East, holding opponents to an average of just 51.3 points. The Bearcats, meanwhile, have now held five of their last eight opponents to fewer than 60 points.

Binghamton hosts Stony Brook on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
