Women's Soccer Shuts Out UMass Lowell on Senior Day

VESTAL, N.Y.- Binghamton women's soccer beat UMass Lowell, 1-0, Sunday in an America East contest at the Bearcats Sports Complex. Jocelyn Acor scored in the 36th minute and the Bearcats made it stand up for their second straight home win.

Binghamton maintained possession for much of the first half, but the River Hawks kept BU off the scoreboard for the majority of the frame. Jocelyn Acor came off the bench and provided an immediate spark. As the visitors attempted to clear the ball from the top of the box, Acor pressured the UMass Lowell defender and the ball came free. Acor then placed a shot to the goalie's right and into the back of the net with 9:52 remaining in the first half.

Midway through the second half, the River Hawks earned a penalty kick. Rachel Morrier stepped up to take the shot. The attempt was a low liner, but Katie Hatziyianis was there to make a diving save and preserve the lead with 25:40 left in the second half.

BU outshot the River Hawks, 10-7. Each team earned five corner kicks in the match.

The Bearcats recognized their eight seniors prior to the contest. Leighann Bennett, Kasey Brida, Kelly Corrado, Haley Downin, Aly Falinski, Michele Galvin, Allison Mack, and Jacque Rice were honored on the field.

Binghamton improved to 6-8-2 overall and 2-4 in the America East. The Bearcats head to UMBC and Vermont to close out the regular season next weekend. UMass Lowell dropped to 4-9-2 overall and 2-5 in the conference.
