VESTAL, N.Y. – The Binghamton women's basketball team opened the exhibition portion of its 2016-17 schedule with a 53-47 victory over Rochester on Sunday afternoon at the Events Center.

Imani Watkins, who was named to the America East Preseason All-Conference Team, led the Bearcats with 14 points. She also added five rebounds, three assists and a pair of steals.
Redshirt sophomore guard
Jasmine Sina made her return to the court with 12 points, three assists and also recorded a pair of steals. After being named the America East Rookie of the Year in 2015, she missed last season with an injury.
Junior center
Alyssa James, meanwhile, added 10 points, seven rebounds, a game-high three blocks and three steals. She is coming off a sophomore season in which she was named the America East Defensive Player of the Year.
"We were really excited to get out on to the court in front of our home fans," head coach
Linda Cimino said. "It was good to play this exhibition game to get the kinks out and the rust off. We did some really good things today but we also have some areas that need improvement. I was happy with our effort today and how hard we played."
Rochester, which advanced to the NCAA Division III Elite Eight last year, was led by All-American forward Alexander Leslie, who scored a game-high 18 points and grabbed 14 rebounds. Brenna James added 13 points.
Binghamton hosts St. Rose on Friday at 7 p.m. in the second and final exhibition game of the year. The Bearcats tip off the regular season against Bucknell on Nov. 11 at 5:30 p.m.
