Women's soccer hosts Albany Thursday night

BU begins three-game homestand with test vs. defending AE champions; Kick-off at 7 p.m.

VESTAL, N.Y. - Binghamton women's soccer (4-7-2, 0-3 America East) begins a three-game homestand with a test against reigning America East champion Albany (4-7, 1-1 AE) on Thursday. The teams will continue their rivalry at 7 p.m. at the Bearcats Sports Complex.

The Bearcats are looking to snap a five-game losing streak and get into the conference win column. On Sunday, BU surrendered two first-half goals but despite raising their offensive pressure with nine second-half shots, the Bearcats were blanked for the fifth straight game.

Albany has split its first two league games, losing at UMass Lowell 1-0 before throttling Stony Brook 4-0 last Thursday. The Great Danes played a challenging non-conference slate that included St. John's (L 3-0), Syracuse (L 2-0), Dartmouth (L 3-1) and Seton Hall (L 2-1, ot).

Albany returned six starters and 11 letterwinners from its 2015 squad that reached the NCAA tournament with an 11-win championship season.

Two-time first team all-conference midfielder Alexa Schneider leads the team with three goals and eight points. In the lopsided win over Stony Brook (which beat BU 3-0), Albany scored three times in the second half to pull away. Redshirt freshman keeper Chloe Borasky made nine saves for her second shutout of the season.

Binghamton does have history on its side against Albany. The Bearcats own a 9-3-2 advantage in the all-time series (since 2001), though the Great Danes have gone 3-1-1 in the last five meetings. The teams played to a scoreless draw the last time they met in Vestal in 2014. Last season, host Albany snapped a 1-1 tie in the 73rd minute and posted a 2-1 win.
