VESTAL, N.Y. - Binghamton men's basketball (1-0) faces the first of several high profile November opponents when the Bearcats meet BIG EAST member St. John's (1-0) Monday night in Queens. The teams will tip at 6:30 p.m. at Carnesecca Arena in a game broadcast on Fox Sports 1.Â
The Bearcats are coming off a successful season opener Friday night. Led by redshirt sophomore
J.C. Show's game-high 23 points, BU defeated visiting Cornell 68-61. Show hit 8-of-13 from the field and scored 16 of his points in the decisive second half, when BU shot 56 percent. Junior forward
Dusan Perovic hit 6-of-12 for 14 points and sophomore guard
Timmy Rose added six points and a team-high four assists. Binghamton held the Big Red to just 4-of-29 shooting from beyond the arc and 35 percent from the floor. Â
St. John's opened its season with a comfortable 100-53 win over Bethune-Cookman on Friday. The Red Storm shot 62 percent and received a combined 39 points from Federico Mussini and Marcus Lovett. The team returns two starters and seven lettermen from an 8-24 team last season. Head coach Chris Mullin, the most decorated player in school history, begins his second season in 2016-17 after nearly a decade of NBA front office work. St. John's wins at an 83 percent clip on its on-campus home floor (458-91) and the program ranks ninth in the NCAA in all-time wins and 13th in win percentage.Â
This will be the first-ever meeting between the two programs, and is part of The Battle 4 Atlantis tournament.Â
After the game in NYC, BU will return home to host Central Connecticut State on Wednesday.Â
