Watkins scores game-high 25 points, Sina adds 13 points

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Binghamton women's basketball team (1-3) was defeated 71-58 by unbeaten Providence (3-0) in a non-conference game on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Hall. The game marked the first-ever meeting between the Bearcats and their opponent from the BIG EAST Conference.

Junior guard Imani Watkins poured in a game-high 25 points. She now has 991 career points and in the process, moved into 15th place all time in Binghamton program history. Against Providence, she surpassed Sherae Swinson, who scored 985 points from 2011-15.

Redshirt sophomore guard Jasmine Sina added 13 points and dished out a team-high four assists. Junior center Alyssa James, meanwhile, chipped in 10 points.

Binghamton took command of the game in the first period, hitting nine of its first 15 shots to go up 21-15 through 10 minutes. Watkins and Sina each had six points during that stretch.

The Bearcats led by as much as 30-17 early in the second period before settling into a 41-31 halftime advantage. By that point, Watkins had 16 points and Sina pumped in 11 points.

At the 8:43 mark of the third quarter, Watkins made a layup to put the Bearcats back up by 13 points at 46-33. From there, however, the Friars stormed all the way back to take a 55-54 lead at the end of the period. Jovana Nogic punctuated the run with a three-point field goal with 28 seconds left in the period.

In the fourth quarter, the Bearcats struggled from the field, scoring only four points. Still, they were within 61-58 approaching the three-minute mark of regulation. Nogic then hit back-to-back three pointers in a span of 38 seconds to break the game open.

The Friars then sealed the game by going 4-for-4 from the free throw line in the final minute of play.
