HARRISONBURG, Va. -- Junior shortstop
Crysti Eichner went 4-for-6 with a home run and six RBI, leading Binghamton (5-3) to a pair of wins in the second day of the Macedo/James Madison Invitational. The Bearcats downed Robert Morris (2-9) 15-5 in five innings before beating St. Joseph's (3-5) 8-3.
Eichner, who is now batting .400 for the season, homered and drove in a career-high four RBI against St. Joseph's. She now has two home runs in the Bearcats' last three games.
Senior catcher
Taylor Chaffee went 2-for-5 in the two games on Saturday. Against Robert Morris, she had a game-high four RBI.
Junior outfielder
Gabby Bracchi finished the day 3-for-6 (.500) while sophomore outfielder
Jessica Rutherford was 2-for-5 (.400).
Against Robert Morris, the Bearcats reeled off 11 runs in the top of the fourth inning to go up 14-3. Chaffee stroked a two-run double and sophomore second baseman Stephanie Beilec added a two-run single during that frame. Binghamton also drew three bases-loaded walks.
The 11 runs is the most scored by Binghamton in an inning since its plated the same total in the second inning of a 20-2 win over Rider on March 8, 2015.
Junior pitcher
Shelby Donhauser got the win in her first decision of the year. Lacee Collins dropped to 0-3 with the loss.
Chafee, Eichner and Bracchi each collected a pair of hits against the Colonials.
Against St. Joseph's in the nightcap, it was a huge first inning that propelled the Bearcats to victory. Trailing 2-0, Binghamton erupted for six runs in the bottom of the frame. Eichner delivered the big blow with a two-run triple.
One inning later, Eichner came through again, belting a two-run home run to put Binghamton up 8-2.
Sophomore
Sarah Miller pitched the first four innings to improve to 3-3. Ashley Ventura fell to 2-3 with the loss. Senior
Cara Martin tossed three scoreless innings to pick up her second save of the year.
Binghamton concludes its stay at the Macedo/JMU Invitational on Sunday with a 10 a.m. game against Toledo.
