BUFFALO, N.Y.—The Binghamton women's lacrosse team (2-3) lost 12-7 to Canisius today at the Demske Sports Complex.
Binghamton started the scoring, when
Rebecca Golderman fired in the first goal of the game on a free position shot. Canisius then went on a five-goal run, but
Valerie DeNapoli helped close the gap as the half wound down. First the junior picked up a loose ball in front of the net—thanks to a
Tiffany Ryan deflection—and shot quickly to beat the Canisius goalie. Her second goal came 90 seconds later via free position shot, making it a 5-3 game.
Callon Williams tallied the first Binghamton goal of the second half, when she capitalized on a free position opportunity with 26:11 left. The Bearcats controlled the ball for most of the ensuing six minutes, with the punctuation mark being a
Tiffany Ryan goal on a free position shot. After a Canisius goal, Williams scored again on a free postion shot to keep the Bearcats within one goal of the Griffs. Canisius scored two quick goals to make it 9-6, but with 11:38 left
Tiffany Ryan scored to make it a two-goal game. That would be the last for Binghamton, as Canisius closed out the contest with three straight goals.
DeNapoli, Ryan, and Williams each registered a pair of goals for Binghamton.
Emma Jehle made her first career start in net, making six saves for Binghamton.
The Bearcats return to action on March 9 at Siena.
