Eichner drives in three runs as Bearcats win in eight innings

DELAND, Fla. – Junior third baseman Crysti Eichner drove in three runs, leading Binghamton (7-7) to a 6-5, eight-inning victory over Tennessee-Martin (15-9) in the final day of the Stetson Classic on Sunday morning at Hatter Field. With the victory, the Bearcats finished the weekend with a 2-3 record.

The Bearcats trailed 5-4 in the top of the sixth inning when Eichner drew a bases-loaded walk to tie the game. Two innings later, her sacrifice fly allowed freshman pinch runner Allison Pritchard to score the eventual winning run.

Earlier in the game, Eichner capped a two-run top of the first inning with a RBI double.  One inning later, sophomore shortstop Jillian Bovitt smacked a solo home run, padding the lead to 3-0.

The Skyhawks rallied to tie the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the third inning. Carly Gonzales doubled in the first two runs. She later scored the tying run on a single by Lauren Myers.

Binghamton retook the lead in the top of the fourth inning on a RBI single by junior outfielder Sydney Harbaugh. In the bottom of the frame, however, Tennessee Martin scored two runs on a throwing error to go up 5-4.

Sophomore pitcher Sarah Miller improved to 5-4 with the victory. The loss was tagged to Taylor Saxon, who is now 1-2.

Senior catcher Taylor Chaffee went 3-for-4 for Binghamton while Harbaugh, junior outfielder Gabby Bracchi and sophomore outfielder Jessica Rutherford each finished with two hits.

Rutherford finished the Stetson Classic with a team-high .600 batting average, going 9-for-15 in the process. She joined Miller, who had both wins, on the all-tournament team.

Chaffee was 7-for-15 (.467) during the weekend while Harbaugh finished 7-for-17 (.411) and Bracchi went 6-for-15 (.400).
