BUFFALO, N.Y. – Senior designated player Griffin McIver hit three home runs and had five RBI, powering Binghamton (28-12) to a 12-4, 11-8 sweep over Buffalo (14-32) in a non-conference softball doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon at Nan Harvey Field. With the victories, the Bearcats extend their winning streak to seven games.

McIver, who is the current America East Player of the Week, batted a team-best 4-for-6 (.667) and reached base six times. She now has a team-high 12 home runs this year, which is tied for the fourth-best, single-season mark in Binghamton program history.

Also driving in five runs against Buffalo was junior shortstop Crysti Eichner, who went 5-for-8 (.625) with two doubles and a home run. Sophomore third baseman Kate Richard finished the day 4-for-7 (.571).

McIver's heroics were most needed in the second game. The Bearcats took an 8-3 lead in the top of the seventh inning when Eichner and McIver hit back-to-back solo home runs. The Bulls, however, came all the way back to tie the game in the bottom of the inning.

In the top of the eighth inning, Eichner's sacrifice fly gave the Bearcats a 9-8 advantage as sophomore outfielder Jessica Rutherford scored on the play. One batter later, McIver drilled two-run home run.

Buffalo left the tying run at the plate when the game ended in the bottom of the eighth inning.

Senior pitcher Cara Martin improved to 9-3 with the victory. Brieanna Baker fell to 3-7 with the loss.

Eichner had career-high four hits in the second game, going 4-for-4 in the process. The only time she didn't reach base was on the go-ahead sacrifice fly in the eighth inning.

In the opener, the Bearcats scored four times in the top of the first inning. Senior first baseman Lisa Cadogan had the big blow of the frame with a three-run home run.

The Bulls trimmed the deficit to 5-4 through two innings but Binghamton scored four more times in the top of the third inning. Eichner belted a two-run double and McIver clubbed a two-run home run during that frame.

One inning later, senior catcher Taylor Chaffee hit a solo home run, padding the lead to 10-3. In the top of the fifth inning, senior outfielder Sydney Harbaugh doubled in a run and scored one batter later on a sacrifice fly by Rutherford.

With an eight-run lead, the Bearcats were able to finish off the first game in five innings.

Makenzie Goluba went four innings without allowing an earned run to improve to 6-0. The loss was tagged to Lace Smith, whose record dropped to 5-6.

Cadogan went 4-for-9 (.444) during the day while Chaffee finished 3-for-7 (.429) and Rutherford was 3-for-7 (.429). As a team, Binghamton hit .453.

The Bearcats now travel to Albany for a three-game series that will determine first place in the America East Conference. The two squads will play a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday and a single game at noon on Sunday.

NOTES: Rutherford continues to lead the Bearcats in hitting (.415) and RBI (36). McIver and Eichner are tied for second with 35 RBI … Chaffee is batting .402 followed by McIver, who is hitting .391.
