Women's soccer hosts Temple Sunday

Bearcats and Owls kick-off at 1 p.m.

VESTAL, N.Y. - Coming off the team's first loss in 15 days, Binghamton women's soccer (3-2-2) hosts Temple (2-4) at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Bearcats Sports Complex. The game is the first of three straight at home to close out BU's non-conference schedule.

On Friday at Lehigh, the Bearcats gave up two second-half goals and came up short against the unbeaten Mountain Hawks, 2-0. Lehigh, which hasn't allowed a goal yet in 2016, outshot BU 19-8 and kept the visitors without a dangerous scoring threat.

Thanks to a stout defense, the Bearcats have made the most of their five goals this season, winning three games by a 1-0 score and parlaying the other two goals into a pair of 1-1 ties.

Temple returns four starters and 13 letterwinners from a 12-7-1 team that finished sixth in the American Athletic Conference (4-4-1). All seven of the team's defeats came by the slimmest of margins. After a lot of graduation turnover, Temple has 11 freshmen on its roster this fall.

In 2016, the Owls have beaten Delaware State (5-0) and Rider (1-0) and lost to Drexel (2-1), La Salle (1-0), Towson (1-0) and most recently, Princeton (3-0) on Friday. In that game, the host Tigers scored all three goals in a 15+ minute span in the first half and outshot Temple 22-1.

Temple has won three of the four games played all-time between the two schools, including a 4-1 home victory last season. Binghamton's lone win in the series was a 3-1 home win in 2009.
