VESTAL, N.Y. - Binghamton women's soccer (4-6-2, 0-2 America East) looks for its first conference win when the Bearcats travel to Long Island to face Stony Brook (3-7-2, 0-1 AE) at 1 p.m. Sunday.
Binghamton is coming off a 1-0 home loss to New Hampshire Thursday night. In that game, the visiting Wildcats scored a goal in the 32nd minute and then withstood a determined second-half effort from the Bearcats. Binghamton registered 10 shots over the final 45 minutes, including one that banked off the crossbar.Â
"I was much more pleased with our effort tonight after the Hartford loss," head coach
Neel Bhattacharjee said. "I like the way we bounced back and especially the way we controled play in the second half. Now it's about getting the result."
Stony Brook opened league play with a 4-0 loss at defending America East champion Albany on Thursday. The Seawolves have wins over Fairfield (2-0), Delaware (2-1) and Wagner (3-0). The team has played a challenging non-conference schedule that included losses to No. 17 UConn (4-1), Boston College (3-0) and Ivy League members Yale (4-0) and Brown (1-0). Â
Eighteen letterwinners are back from a Seawolves squad that went 6-9-3 in 2015 and finished in seventh place in the America East - missing a playoff spot by one point.
Since both teams joined the America East, Stony Brook leads the head-to-head series 8-2-2. The teams played to a 1-1 double overtime draw last October in Vestal. The last BU win in the series came back in 2005 (3-0).Â
