Women’s Basketball Defeats Cortland 90-36 in Home Opener

Bearcats break program record with 66 rebounds, honor James in pregame ceremony

VESTAL, N.Y. – Senior guard Imani Watkins and sophomore guard Kai Moon each netted a game-high 18 points while sophomore guard Carly Boland finished with 14 points and 14 rebounds, leading Binghamton (1-1) to a 90-36 win over Cortland (0-0) in an non-conference women's basketball game on Monday night at Dr. Bai Lee Court at the Events Center. In the process, the Bearcats broke the program record with 66 rebounds.

Watkins, Moon and Boland led a balanced attack where 11 players all scored and reached double digits in minutes. The 18 points for Moon was a career high while the 14 rebounds was a career-best for Boland and marked the first double-double of her career.

The 66 rebounds, meanwhile, broke the program record of 64, set against New Paltz back on Jan. 21, 1992. The Division I era record, which includes all games dating back to the 2001-02 season, was 60 against Stony Brook on Jan. 6, 2011.

"Tonight was a total team effort," head coach Linda Cimino said. "I thought we did a great job on the boards and that's a credit to the whole team. We executed our sets well tonight and we able to hit our shots."

Boland was one of three Binghamton players to reach double figures in rebounds. Sophomore guard/forward Karlee Krchnavi grabbed a career-high 10 rebounds while redshirt sophomore forward Corrinne Godshall set her career high with 11 rebounds.

Prior to the game, senior center Alyssa James was honored for reaching the 1,000th point of her career in Friday night's game against Army. She was presented with the game ball from Friday night and against Cortland, finished with eight points, five rebounds, three blocks and a pair of steals.

Binghamton hosts defending Ivy League champion Penn on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
