RICHMOND, Va. - Binghamton baseball (2-3) belted two home runs and collected 12 hits en route to a 9-3 neutral-site win over Toledo (1-6) Saturday morning at Pitt Field.
Junior center fielder
CJ Krowiak went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI and three BU pitchers combined for 11 strikeouts in the win. It was the second straight day that the Bearcats defeated their Mid-American Conference opponent.
Binghamton struck first in the opening frame when junior shortstop
Paul Rufo hit a one-out solo home run to left field. After Toledo evened it in the bottom of the first on two hits and an error, BU erupted for four runs in the second. Junior catcher
Jason Agresti hit a 1-out infield single and junior designated hitter
Pat Britt followed with a single, putting runners on first and third. Junior second baseman
Luke Tevlin sent a 2-run double to center field, making it 3-1 Bearcats. Two batters later, Krowiak unleashed a 2-out, 2-run home run to left field, giving BU a 5-1 advantage.
Toledo scored single runs in the third and seventh inning to conclude their offensive production. Binghamton added a run in the eighth and three more in the ninth to pad its margin.
In the eighth, senior right fielder
Eddie Posavec roped a 1-out triple to center field and Agresti plated him with a sacrifice fly to right, making it 6-3. In the ninth, Krowiak added an RBI single, senior first baseman
Brendan Skidmore scored a run with a sacrifice fly and Krowiak scored the ninth and final run on a wild pitch.
Sophomore third baseman
Justin Yurchak went 2-for-4 and is hitting .619 (13-for-21) in his first five games as a Bearcat. Posavec and senior left fielder
Darian Herncane had two hits apiece.
On the hill, sophomore starter
Nick Gallagher (W, 1-0) went 5.0 innings and allowed just one earned run on four hits. Gallagher struck out seven. Sophomore Cal Lawrewnce and freshman
Ben Anderson each pitched two strong innings. Lawrence fanned three and Anderson shut down Toledo on one hit to close out the win.
The Bearcats wrap up their weekend in Richmond with a 2 p.m. tilt against the host and Atlantic-10 member Spiders. Junior left-hander
Nick Wegmann makes his second start of the season.
