VESTAL, N.Y. - Freshman shortstop
Greg Satriale hammered a tiebreaking RBI triple to deep center in the bottom of the seventh inning and two Binghamton pitchers shut down Maine on four hits as BU (20-7, 9-2 America East) completed a three-game sweep with a 3-2 win Sunday afternoon at the Baseball Complex.
With their seventh consecutive win and 11th in the last 13 games, the Bearcats reached the 20-win mark the fastest in their 16-year Division I tenure (27 games) and moved 13 games over the .500 mark, stretching their first-place America East lead in the process. Maine fell to 14-20, 3-6 in conference play.Â
With one out in the seventh, junior designated hitter
Pat Britt singled and Satriale followed with a blast that scored pinch runner
Anthony Meduri with the go-ahead run.Â
Junior starter
Jacob Wloczewski (W, 3-1) went 7.0 innings and scattered four hits and one earned run. Junior closer
Dylan Stock notched his fifth save of the season with two 1-2-3 innings to close it out. With another pitching gem, BU's hurlers lowered the team's season earned run average to 2.99.
Binghamton opened the scoring with a run in the first. With one out, senior right fielder
Eddie Posavec (2-for-3, 2 runs) singled, moved to second on a balk and scored on an RBI double by sophomore third baseman
Justin Yurchak (2-for-4, 2 RBI).
In the top of the third, Maine knotted the score with a two-out, solo home run.
In the sixth, the same tandem of Posavec and Yurchak struck again. Posavec singled, went to second on an outfield error and scored on a Yurchak RBI single to left.
Maine tied the game in the top of the seventh with an unearned run, setting the stage for Satriale's game-winning hit.
Senior first baseman
Brendan Skidmore went 2-for-4.
The Bearcats continue their 13-game homestand with a home game Tuesday night against Cornell. The first-ever game under the lights will begin at 6:30 p.m.
