Baseball walks off over CCSU 3-2

Skidmore RBI single in 11th inning wins it for BU (22-9), which captures weekend series

VESTAL, N.Y. - Senior first baseman Brendan Skidmore hit an RBI single in the bottom of the 11th inning lifting Binghamton baseball (22-9) to a 3-2 walk-off win over visiting Central Connecticut State Sunday afternoon at the Baseball Complex. The Bearcats won the weekend series and have now won 13 of their last 17 games.

Senior outfielder Eddie Posavec, sophomore third baseman Justin Yurchak and junior catcher Jason Agresti all walked to load the bases with no outs in the 11th inning. Skidmore (3-for-4, 3 RBI) hit a hard smash to short and the Blue Devils infielder could only knock it down as Posavec trotted home with the winning run.

The teams combined for just 16 hits in the 11 innings and traded single runs before BU won it in the second extra-frame. CCSU scored a run in the top of the first on a pair of hits. Binghamton countered in the bottom of the second when Skidmore belted a 1-out, solo home run - his fourth of the season. The Blue Devils regained the lead in the sixth in a double-single combination but BU again answered. In the bottom of the sixth, Posavec led off with a double, went to third on a long fly by Yurchak and scored on a two-out RBI single by Skidmore.

Junior starter Jacob Wloczewski struck out a season-high nine in his 6.0 innings of work. Wloczewski scattered six hits and two runs in the no-decision. Junior Joe Orlando pitched a clean seventh inning before giving way to junior closer Dylan Stock, who pitched two shutout innings. Freshman Jake Miller (W, 3-0) worked the 11th inning and lowered his season ERA to 1.20.

Skidmore raised his team-high RBI count to 24.

The Bearcats host St. Bonaventure at 4 p.m. on Tuesday.
