Softball Repeats as AE Regular-Season Champions

Bearcats to host conference tournament for third time in five years

VESTAL, N.Y. – For the second consecutive season, Binghamton (21-23, 11-4 AE) has captured the America East regular-season softball championship. Despite dropping a 2-1, 4-1 doubleheader at Stony Brook (16-27, 9-7 AE) in their final regular-season games on Saturday, the Bearcats are the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament, which will be held Wednesday-Saturday.

This marks the third time in five years that the Bearcats will host the America East Tournament. In 2013, Albany nipped Binghamton for first place in the regular-season but deferred the hosting role. Last year, the Bearcats accepted the host role as the No. 1 seed.

In addition, this is also the third straight year that Binghamton has won a conference championship of some sort. The Bearcats won the tournament title in 2013 and advanced to the NCAA Tournament.

As the No. 1 seed, Binghamton will receive a first-round bye in the America East Tournament and will face the winner of the first-round game between No. 4 Albany and No. 5 UMBC on Thursday at 11 a.m.

Maine, as the No. 2 seed, also earned a first-round bye. The Black Bears will meet the winner of Wednesday's first-round game between No. 3 Stony Brook and No, 6 Hartford on Thursday at 1:30.
