Baseball clips Lowell 5-2 for sweep

Drpich, Britt drive in deciding runs in 8th inning; BU wins 10th straight America East game

VESTAL, N.Y. - Binghamton baseball snapped a 2-2 tie with three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning and the Bearcats (26-9, 12-2 America East) completed a weekend sweep of visiting UMass Lowell (22-22, 10-10 AE) with a 5-2 win on a rainy Sunday afternoon at the Bearcats Baseball Complex.

The win extended BU's conference win streak to 10 and gave them a 13-2 record in their last 15 games. First-place Binghamton can clinch the program's second straight America East regular season title and tournament top seed with one more win in its last six remaining league games.

On Sunday, freshman second baseman Justin Drpich finished off a stellar week with the game-winning hit in the eighth. With one out in a 2-2 game, junior catcher Jason Agresti drilled a double into the left field corner. After senior first baseman Brendan Skidmore drew a walk, Drpich pulled a 2-2 pitch inside the third base bag and down the line for an RBI double. It was Drpich's eighth RBI in four games this week. Junior designated hitter Pat Britt followed with a sharply-hit two-run single up the middle to push the lead to 5-2.

Senior reliever Nicholas Liegi (W, 4-0), who worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the eighth, used a strikeout and two fly outs in the ninth to close the door. Liegi lowered his season ERA to 0.69 in nine appearances.

Agresti, junior center fielder CJ Krowiak and freshman shortstop Greg Satriale had two hits apiece. Satriale also saved a run in the top of the eighth by knocking down a hard grounder in the hole.

Junior starter Jacob Wloczewski struck out a career-high 10 in his 6.0 innings. Wloczewski allowed just two hits and one earned run. Freshman Ben Anderson worked 1.2 innings and fanned four.

The Bearcats next host Siena in a non-conference game at 2 p.m. on Wednesday.
