VESTAL, N.Y. - Binghamton women's soccer (7-8-2, 2-5 America East) concludes its 2018 season by hosting longtime SUNY rival Albany (10-6-2, 4-2-1 AE) at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Bearcats Sports Complex.Â
The Bearcats have been eliminated from postseason contention after Thursday's heartbreaking 2-1 overtime loss to New Hampshire. Binghamton scored in the ninth minute and led for more than 77 minutes before UNH tied it with just over three minutes remaining. The Wildcats then won the game just 1:19 into the extra session. Senior
Kayla Saager scored her team-high 11th goal of the season. The Bearcats will now look to snap a four-game losing streak and finish the season on a high note.
The game will be the final collegiate contest for BU's three seniors:
Patty Loonie,
Kaycee Pickard and
Kayla Saager. Â
The high-scoring Great Danes (AE best 40 goals) have clinched a spot in the postseason and enter today's finale in a tie for third place. On Thursday, Albany cruised past UMBC 4-0. Senior forward Mariah Williams leads the conference in goals (15) and points (32). Senior back Caroline Kopp also leads the America East with 12 assists. In conference play, Albany has scored 20 goals - nearly three per game.Â
Since both programs elevated to Division I in 2001, Binghamton leads the head-to-head series 10-5-2. Nine of the last 10 games have been decided by one goal or less. Last September, visiting BU posted a 1-0 win, thanks to a double overtime goal by Saager in the 103rd minute. Albany had won the two previous games in 2015 and 2016 - each by one goal.  Â
