VESTAL, N.Y. - Visiting Albany tallied the game's lone goal in the 34th minute and the Great Danes (11-6-2, 5-2-1 America East) defeated Binghamton women's soccer (7-9-2, 2-6 AE) 1-0 Sunday afternoon at the Bearcats Sports Complex. The loss marked the end of the season for BU, which tied for seventh place in the standings and won't advance to the America East tournament.
"I thought the effort was certainly there today," head coach Neel Bhattacharjee said. "It was tough especially after Thursday night when we had the game in hand and the prospects looked pretty good of advancing to the postseason. I appreciate the players having great focus and putting in a great effort today ... and I thought we were a bit unlucky. Albany converted a chance and we didn't and sometimes it's that simple. If things bounce a couple of different ways this year, we could've been 5-3 instead of 2-6. The margin is razor thin. It comes down to a matter of key moments that can change and define a season. Unfortunately those moments went a little bit more against us this season, when they tended to go in our favor last season."Â
Albany held a 9-6 shots advantage. Sophomore keeper
Mackenzie Hanna made a pair of saves in her second straight start.Â
The Bearcats looked dangerous at times and nearly had the equalizer with 1:20 left in the first half when sophomore
Dora Hayes unleashed a 30-yard shot that caromed off the crossbar.Â
It was the final collegiate game for BU's three seniors
Patty Loonie,
Kaycee Pickard and
Kayla Saager.Â

"I'm thankful for everything our seniors have given us," Bhattacharjee said. "We will miss them greatly. The three of them will leave a mark on this program. They've made this program and this place a destination. I'm so happy they had the chance to win a championship last season and collect some hardware. I'm so grateful for everything they've done."Â Â Â
