Bearcats drop nine contested bouts

VESTAL, N.Y. - The Binghamton wrestling team fell 36-6 to #9 Cornell in the Events Center Friday night. Audey Ashkar was the sole winner with a forfeit by Cornell at 125 pounds.

"Tonight was a good learning experience for our team," head coach Kyle Borshoff said. "Cornell is one of the top programs in the country every year and they came in here and they brought that experience to the mat. Our guys found out what it takes to be one of the best teams in the country and we got to feel what it's like to wrestle one tonight. There were some things that I saw tonight that we can build from as we move through the season and we have plenty of time to build on this and be ready to go."

Quick Hits
  • Four matches from the Bearcats were within three points
  • Tied 0-0 through the first period, Garcia scored a takedown early in the second against Hunter Richard to take a 3-2 lead into the second. Richard scored on a takedown before finishing with an escape, winning the match 5-4
  • In his collegiate debut at 165 pounds, Aidan Monteverdi came out on fire against Milik Dawkins. Monteverdi scored fast, going up 3-2 at the end of the first with a takedown and an escape. Dawkins put some points on the board in the last two periods, and two escapes from Monteverdi pulled him close but just short. Dawkins took the win 7-5
  • #21 Vincent DePrez wrestled a tight match with Brandon Womack at 174 pounds, trailing 2-1 at the end of the first. Two escapes from Womack gave him the upper hand and a 4-1 victory
