Carmody leads four Bearcat players in double figures with 17 points

VESTAL, N.Y. – Senior forward Rebecca Carmody finished with 17 points and nine rebounds while junior guard Karlee Krchnavi added 13 points and eight rebounds, pacing Binghamton (5-3) to a 73-54 victory over Fairleigh Dickinson (2-4) in a non-conference women's basketball game on Friday evening at Dr. Bai Lee Court at the Events Center. The win is the Bearcats' third in the past four games.

Carmody went 7-for-13 from the floor and just missed recording her second straight double-double. She also added three assists.

Krchnavi, meanwhile, set her career high in scoring, going 5-for-7 from the floor and 3-for-5 from beyond the three-point arc. She also finished with a game-high and career-best three blocks.

As a team, Binghamton tied its season high in points and shot a season-best 47.6 percent from the field (30-of-63). Its 20 assists was also a season high.

"It was another great effort by our team tonight," head coach Bethann Shapiro Ord said. "It wasn't just one person tonight. It was a total team effort. The kids really stepped up together and the bench play was terrific."

The Bearcats had two other players reach double figures in scoring against the Knights. Sophomore guard Lizzy Spindler netted 13 points to go along with four assists and junior guard Carly Boland added 12 points, four rebounds, five assists and a pair of blocks.

Binghamton got out to a 33-23 lead with 2:54 left in the first half on a three-point field goal by Krchnavi. The Knights, however, reeled off the final seven points of the period, trimming the deficit to 33-30 at the break. Lauren Francillion had five points during that stretch.

In the third period, Fairleigh Dickinson took a 39-38 lead on a three-point play by Natalie Zamora with 7:35 remaining. Binghamton then responded with a 12-2 run over the rest of the quarter to go up 50-41. Krchnavi capped the spurt with a buzzer-beating jumper.

Carmody opened the fourth quarter with five straight points in the opening 1:27 of play, padding the lead to 55-41. The Knights got to within 59-50 on a jumper by Stanley Madison with 4:37 left in regulation but the Bearcats closed out the game on a 14-4 run.

Paniel M'Bikata led Fairleigh Dickinson with 14 points while Stanley finished with 11 points.

Sophomore forward Olivia Ramil added eight points, six rebounds and five assists in the winning effort. Over the past four games, she has averaged 4.5 assists.

The Bearcats finished with a 41-26 advantage in rebounding, marking the second straight game they have posted at least 40 rebounds.

Binghamton heads to Niagara on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. game.

NOTES: Carmody continues to lead the Bearcats in scoring (13.9 ppg.) and rebounding (7.6 rpg.). She entered the game against Fairleigh Dickinson leading the America East in rebounding. Binghamton's 5-3 record represents its best eight-game start since it started the 2005-06 season with the same record.
