Women's Basketball Travels to the Midwest

Bearcats head to Notre Dame and Marquette for games on Sunday and Monday

STORY LINES
 
- Binghamton (5-5) lost 62-57 to visiting Rider on Dec. 8. Sophomore guard Lizzy Spindler netted a team-best and career-high 17 points against the Broncs. Senior forward Rebecca Carmody and junior guard Carly Boland each added 13 points.
 
- Carmody leads the team and ranks eighth in the America East with 14.0 points per game. She is also second in the conference in rebounding (7.8 rpg.). Boland is second in the America East in blocks (1.5 bpg.).
 
- As a team, the Bearcats are second in the America East in blocks (4.3 bpg.) and rebounding (38.4 rpg.). Binghamton is also third in scoring (63.0 ppg.) and second in free throw percentage (.720).
 
- Notre Dame (8-1) is the defending NCAA Division I champion. The Fighting Irish are currently ranked second in the Women's Basketball Coaches' Association (WBCA) Top 25 Poll.
 
- Leading Notre Dame in scoring this season is senior Arike Ogunbowale, who is averaging 24.0 points per game. In her junior season, she was named the Most Outstanding Player in the Final Four. Ogunbowale was also a WBCA All-American as well as a second-team Associated Press All-American.
 
- Binghamton and Notre Dame meet for the first time in women's basketball. It also marks the first time in program history that the Bearcats have squared off against the defending NCAA Division I champion.
 
- Binghamton's only other two games against an ACC school were both against Miami (Fla.). The Bearcats played at Miami on Dec. 6, 2008 and hosted the Hurricanes on Dec. 19, 2009.
 
- Marquette (7-2) is the defending BIG EAST champion and is currently tied for No. 16 in the WBCA Top 25 Poll. The Golden Eagles advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament last season.
 
- Leading Marquette this season is senior guard Allazia Brockton, who is averaging 19.1 points per game. In her junior season, she was named the BIG EAST Player of the Year as was as an honorable mention All-American by the WBCA.
 
- The marks the first meeting between Binghamton and Marquette in women's basketball. It also marks the first time Binghamton has played against a school from the BIG EAST conference since meeting Xavier back on Nov. 28, 2015.
 
- In its 18-year NCAA Division I era, Binghamton has once before met a nationally-ranked program. The Bearcats played then No. 24 Hartford on Feb. 18, 2010. In addition, Binghamton has faced five teams receiving votes in the national polls -- the most recent of which was Princeton on Dec. 13, 2014.
