Wrestling Falls 29-10 to Buffalo

Sparacio, Vincent DePrez and Lou DePrez earn wins for the Bearcats

VESTAL, N.Y. - The Binghamton wrestling team fell 29-10 to Buffalo Thursday evening in the West Gym. Anthony Sparacio (141), Vincent DePrez (174) and #9 Lou DePrez (184) combined for 10 team points in tonight's match.

The Highlights
 
  • After an escape in the first period, Sparacio jumps early in the second, gets two takedowns on Todrank to lead 5-2 into the third period. Todrank escapes in the third but another takedown for Sparacio with 18 seconds to go seals an 8-3 win with ride time
  • At 165, Monteverdi scored two takedowns early against Troy Keller, leading 4-0 through the first. Keller gets one back but Monteverdi scores on the reversal to keep a 4 point lead. A point for an escape and Monteverdi called for locking hands pulls Keller back in, down 6-4 going into the third. Monteverdi battles but a final Keller takedown and escape gives him the 7-6 advantage as time runs out.
  • Vincent DePrez took a dominating win at 174 pounds over Jake Lanning, combining for six takedowns over three periods. Racking up over 3 minutes ride time, DePrez hung on for a major decision, 14-4.
  • Coming off a fifth place finish at the Cliff Keen Invite, #9 Lou DePrez took care of business at 184 pounds with a 7-0 win over Logan Rill. With a takedown early in the first, DePrez lead 2-0 leading into the second with two minutes ride time. A DePrez escape early in the second gives him the 3-0 lead, and Rill hit twice for stalling seals the deal. Over four minutes ride time gives #9 DePrez his first dual victory of the season.
  • At heavyweight, Joe Doyle took the mat against #18 Jake Gunning. Gunning, with a takedown early in the first, lead Doyle 2-1 through the first period. Doyle gets an escape early in the second and attacks fast for a takedown to go up 4-2 over Gunning. Gunning scores on the reversal to quickly tie the match at four through two. A tough third period saw the scored tied 4-4 with 30 seconds to go in the match, before Gunning scored on the reattack to take a 7-4 win over Doyle.
