Wrestling heads to Buffalo to finish 2018 dual schedule

Bearcats look for fourth straight win

VESTAL, N.Y. - After an impressive win last weekend over Bloomsburg 21-12, the Binghamton Wrestling team (11-5, 6-1 EIWA) looks to continue their success on the mats with their final regular season dual of the year against University at Buffalo (5-10). The match, which will be broadcast on YouTube Live, is set for a 7 p.m. start time in Alumni Arena.

Senior Steven Schneider, currently ranked No. 13 in the nation at 184 pounds, picked up his 11th consecutive win of the season defeating his opponent by tech fall, 19-3, in just one period.

Redshirt junior Vincent DePrez, currently ranked No. 28 in the nation, also posted an impressive victory winning a major decision 13-6, and boosting his overall record on the year to 22-8. He also holds a 13-3 record in duals this season, scoring a team high 54 points for the Bearcats.

Anthony Lombardo, Joe Russ, Frankie Garcia, and Tristan Rifanburg all won their respective bouts as well.

In the Rankings

Sitting at an 11-5 dual record this season, Binghamton wrestling saw its name in the national polls for the second time this season. The Bearcats received four votes in the latest USA Today/NWCA Coaches Poll, just narrowly missing the top-25 mark.

Schneider in the Record Books

No. 13 Schneider now has 101 victories for his career, sitting in sixth place in Division 1 history and seventh place all-time.

Preparing for the Bulls

University at Buffalo is coming off a tough loss to Northern Illinois, losing 19-16 after an exciting attempt at a come back. The Bulls are lead by No. 15 Bryan Lantry (133) and No. 20 Jake Gunning (HWT). In their last 3 meets, the Bulls hold the advantage over Binghamton 2-1. Last season when the two programs met, University at Buffalo defeated the Bearcats 31-9.
