EASTON, PA - The Binghamton women's lacrosse team scored 20 goals en route to a 20-13 victory over the Lafayette Leopards Thursday night at Fischer Stadium. Ten Bearcats found the back of the net for the win, including hat tricks from Jacqueline Kennedy, Stefanie Frolo and Paige Volkmann, scoring three apiece. Emma Jehle recorded six saves in the net for the first half while Taylor Passuello added four saves in the second half.
"I'm really proud of the team and the energy they brought today," head coach
Stephanie Allen said. "We did really well creating second opportunities for ourselves and I was really proud of our work in the right. Offensively, we saw goals from ten different players which means they fed off of each other and worked for each other, which was a big improvement from Saturday. We stayed focused on us this week in practice and it really showed out on the field tonight."
Binghamton and Lafayette traded goals to start the game, tied 1-1 after just two minutes. At the 26 minute mark, Rebecca Golderman scored the first goal of a 7-0 run by Binghamton, where seven different Bearcats marked the score sheet. Back to back Lafayette goals were answered with Volkmann's second goal of the game and Skye Schumacher's first. Lafayette snuck two more in before the end of play, and Binghamton held a 10-5 lead over the Leopards into halftime.
After a controlling first half in the draw circle from Lafayette, the Bearcats came out ready to go in the second, winning the first six possessions with five consecutive goals. The Bearcats jumped to a nine point lead with 17 minutes to play with goals from Frolo, Golderman, Kennedy, Volkmann and Tiffany Ryan. The Leopards took a shot at a comeback, netting seven goals in the final 15 minutes, but couldn't come close to touching the Bearcats. Amelia Biancardi scored her first goal of the day before Kennedy and Frolo each secured hat tricks with their third of the game. With three minutes left to play, Brianne Arthur and Ryan netted the finals goals for Binghamton, sealing a 20-13 win over Lafayette.
Kennedy finished the day with three goals and one assist, totaling for four points. The senior also secured five draw controls, caused eight turnovers and picked up a team high 5 ground balls.
The Bearcats are back on the field Wednesday, February 28 for their home opener against Colgate. The game is set for a 3 p.m. start time at the Bearcats Sports Complex.
