Women's Lacrosse beats UNH 13-7

Bearcats clinch No. 3 seed in America East tournament, honor 11 seniors prior

VESTAL, N.Y. - For the first time in program history, the Binghamton women's lacrosse team (8-8, 5-2 AE) beat New Hampshire, 13-7 Saturday afternoon at the Bearcats Sports Complex. The win came on Senior Day and secured the No. 3 seed for the Bearcats in the upcoming America East tournament. The Bearcats will play No. 2 seed Albany in a semifinal Friday on Long Island.

Redshirt senior Brianne Arthur led the charge for the Bearcats with five goals - a repeat of her five-goal outburst against UMass Lowell last weekend. Senior Jacqueline Kennedy made a name for herself on the field as well, registering three caused turnovers to move into first place all-time with 77 career caused turnovers, previously held by Allie Rodgers with 74.

"I'm just incredibly proud of our performance," head coach Stephanie Allen said. "Something we've talked with them about all season is stepping up under pressure and managing the game, which I thought we did really well in the second half. We executed exactly up to our expectations. We couldn't be more proud of these girls and on their senior day, for them to go out with the three seed in the tournament is an amazing accomplishment for them. We have a big week ahead and we're going to be ready come next weekend."

Arthur notched her first goal of the game at 28:03 off a feed from Skye Schumacher, securing a Bearcat lead early in the first half. UNH scored shortly after to tie it up, but senior Tiffany Ryan followed with back to back goals to push Binghamton to a 3-1 lead. The Wildcats scored twice more, tying the game at three. A tight first half of play ended with Arthur's second goal of the game, as the Bearcats took a 4-3 lead into halftime.

A fired up Binghamton offense came out ready to go in the second half, outscoring UNH 9-3. Golderman added a fifth BU goal to the scoreboard just 48 seconds into play, setting the tone for the Bearcats. UNH responded with a quick goal, followed by four consecutive Binghamton goals to bring the momentum back into Bearcat territory. Arthur added two more to her scoresheet, as Paige Volkmann and Alissa Franze each netted one of their own. Kennedy scored two more Binghamton goals before Arthur netted her fifth of the game. Senior Katie Gaudet sealed the win for BU, scoring her second career goal with 4:11 to go in the game. The Bearcats held the final possession of the game, rushing the field after a 13-7 victory over the Wildcats.

Kennedy finished the game with two goals and one assist while Ryan registered two of each for four points. Senior Emma Jehle got the win for Binghamton, making seven saves in the net.

The Bearcats travel to the America East tournament May 4-6, which will be hosted by No. 1 seed Stony Brook.
