BRONX, N.Y. – Madie Aughinbaugh fired a three-hit shutout, leading Fordham (16-17) to a 4-0 victory over Binghamton (7-12) in a non-conference softball game on Thursday afternoon at Bahoshy Field. The game marked the Bearcats' final action before starting their America East schedule this weekend.
Aughinbaugh scattered just three singles, struck out six batters and did not issue a walk. Offensively, the Rams were led by Chelsea Scrapenak, who drove in three runs and went a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate.
Senior outfielder
Jessica Rutherford had two of the Bearcats' three hits. Binghamton twice left a runner on second base at the end of an inning.
Scrapenak tripled home the first run in the bottom of the third inning and scored on the same play. The Rams tacked on another run in the bottom of the fourth inning and Scrapenak singled in the final run two innings later.
Aughinbaugh raised her record 9-6 to while sophomore pitcher
Rozlyn Price dropped to 3-7 with the loss.
Binghamton opens conference play this weekend against UMBC, starting with a 1:30 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday and followed by a single game at noon on Sunday. All the games will be played at nearby Chenango Valley High School.
NOTES: Fordham is the five-time defending Atlantic 10 champions and has advanced to the NCAA Tournament each of those seasons.
