VESTAL, N.Y. – Senior outfielder Jessica Rutherford finished 7-for-8, scored six times and drove in four runs, powering Binghamton (15-23, 8-9 AE) to a 7-2, 11-9 sweep of Hartford (10-31, 0-17 AE) in an America East doubleheader on Friday afternoon at the Bearcats Sports Complex. With the victories, the Bearcats are assured of at least the No. 5 seed at next week's America East Tournament.

Rutherford, who is now batting .421 for the season, finished the day with four extra-bases hits. She smacked three doubles and a home run in the process.

Also driving in four runs was sophomore first baseman Kassidy Seary, who went 3-for-5 with a double and a home run. Sophomore pitcher/designated player Rozlyn Price, meanwhile, homered and drove in three runs.

The Bearcats' sweep overshadowed a record-setting performance by Danielle Rocheleau of Hartford. The freshman designated player hit three home runs and had all nine of the Hawks' RBI in the second game. Both those marks, as well as her 12 total bases, set the Bearcats' Sports Complex Facility record.

Rutherford went a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate in the nightcap. Her two-run home run in the bottom of the fourth broke a 3-3 tie. In the top of the sixth inning, however, Rocheleau tied the game at 5-5 with a two-run home run of her own.

With the score still deadlocked 5-5 in the bottom of the sixth inning, Rutherford and Seary keyed a six-run outburst by the Bearcats. Rutherford broke the tie with a two-run double. Seary then capped the inning with a two-run single.

In the top of the seventh inning, Rocheleau belted her third and final home run of the game – a two-out, grand slam – pulling Hartford to within 11-9. The Hawks left the tying runs on base when the game ended.

Price got the win, improving her record to 6-9. The loss was tagged to Melissa Pereira, who is now 0-7.

In the opener, sophomore pitcher Rayn Gibson scattered two runs on seven hits and struck out three batters. Her record improves to 6-12. In her last 12 innings, Gibson has surrendered only a pair of earned runs.

Nursing a 2-0 lead, Binghamton came up with three runs in the bottom of the third inning. Price keyed the attack with a two-run home run. It was her second home run in as many games and her sixth of the season.

The Hawks plated single runs in both the fourth and fifth inning to pull within 5-2. Binghamton then padded the lead on a sacrifice fly by sophomore first baseman Jaclyn DeLuca in the bottom of the fifth inning and a RBI single by senior third baseman Kate Richard one inning later.

Bianca Ross took the fall, dropping her record to 4-15.

Senior second baseman Jill Bovitt finished the day 3-for-6 (.500).

As a team, the Bearcats batted .382 during the two games.

Binghamton and Hartford conclude their series with a noon game on Saturday. It will be preceded by the Bearcats' annual Senior Day Ceremony. In addition to Rutherford, Richard and Bovitt, this year's senior class included outfielder Carrie Maniccia and second baseman Stephanie Bielec.
