Bearcats looking for second win of early season; kickoff at 3 p.m. at Sports Complex

VESTAL, N.Y. - Binghamton women's soccer (1-1-1) looks to get back in the win column when BU hosts Iona (1-2) at 3 p.m. Sunday afternoon at the Bearcats Sports Complex.

Binghamton suffered its first loss of the season Friday afternoon at Army when the Black Knights scored twice in the second half for a 2-1 decision. Senior forward Kayla Saager had given BU a 1-0 lead just 58 seconds into the second half. Saager tracked down a pass from junior back Lauren Spinnato and after her initial shot was blocked, put home the rebound. But the Bearcats surrendered the tying goal just seven minutes later and Army scored the game-winner in the 75th minute.

Freshman Haylee Poltorak made three saves in the first half and hasn't allowed a goal in 135 college minutes. Binghamton has allowed five goals this season — all in the second half.

After opening their season with a 3-2 road win at Sacred Heart, the Gaels (1-2) have dropped back-to-back 1-0 games - Tuesday at home to Army and then Friday at NJIT.

Junior midfielder Amber Crispin leads the team with two goals. Freshman forward Faith Preziosi scored her first collegiate goal at Sacred Heart - and it was the game-winner. She was named MAAC Rookie of the Week. Freshman keeper Emma Havrilla has a 1.20 goals against average. The Gaels were picked 10th (of 11) in the MAAC Preseason Coaches' Poll. The team went 3-14-3 a year ago and one of those losses was a 2-0 setback to Binghamton. In that game, BU scored goals 43 seconds apart early in the contest.

Binghamton leads the all-time series 5-1-1 and has posted three consecutive victories. The last Iona win was a 1-0 road victory in 2010.
