LORETTO, Pa. - Host St. Francis (2-2-1) recorded 21 shots and used a pair of second-half goals to pull away from Binghamton women's soccer (2-2-1) 3-0 Friday night at Stokes SoccerPlex.
The game was halted after just two minutes and a two-hour lightning delay ensued. When play resumed, the Red Flash applied pressure and used a goal in the 15th minute to carry a 1-0 lead into halftime. St. Francis held a 12-5 shots advantage in the opening 45 minutes.
In the second, BU looked sharper but gave up a goal 6:36 into the half and then surrendered a late tally in the 88th minute for the final margin.
Freshman keeper
Haylee Poltorak played the full 90 minutes - her first complete collegiate game - and made 10 saves. Each team took nine shots in the second half.
"We played a good NCAA caliber team today," head coach
Neel Bhattacharjee said. "After the delay they set the tone in the first half. After making some adjustments we had a much better start to the second half but gave up a goal against the run of play plus a late tally as we pushed for equalizers. So the final score line may been been a bit harsh but we also need to focus on playing a complete 90 minutes. We will have short memories and regroup as we prepare for another talented team in Duquesne."
The Bearcats will head eastward toward Pittsburgh in advance of Sunday's noon tilt with the Atlantic-10 member Dukes.Â
